Artists who have made me who I am today and who I really look up to.
Please check out their stuff!

Plastiboo

One of the most amazing illustrators of all time. Watching their progression over the last 5 years has been crazy. I wish I understood how they make their art so textured and detailed and how they come up with all their insane ideas... you should definitely check out their fake game manuals Vermis and Godhusk, they remind me of the point-and-click adventure games I used to play as a kid. Plastiboo is single handedly feeding my grimdark fantasy and sci fi obsession. I really hope they make a video game someday.

Sagpi

Sagpi makes trippy and kind of mind-bending hand drawn animations and they also have great music taste. I can't imagine how much effort goes into every frame. I never know what's going on exactly in their animations but they convey emotions perfectly. My favorite of their videos are Crack Baby, Cigar, Siren's Call, and Bughead.

Jane Schoenbrun

My actual personal hero tbh. They are an amazing filmmaker who writes stories about topics that hit really close to home to me. The internet and how it affects people, the occult, folk horror, loneliness, the pain of nostalgia, sense of identity or lack thereof, and mental health through the lense of the supernatural. Basically they're doing everything I want to do with my comics but better than I possibly could. They're currently writing a novel called "Public Access Afterworld" and I think when this book comes out it will actually change me as a person. Anyway go watch TV Glow and World's Fair!!

Re_agitator

Cool comics about depressed, gender confused, homosexual losers set in a small trashy town.. AND that use the internet as a devide for the characters to discover themselves... AND they want to kill eachother romantically.. so yeah this is exactly my taste. Their art is also great. I love that all their comics and even some animations are hand drawn on paper.

Alex G

My favorite musician ever. His music is so atmospheric it's almost like a visual art form, and it makes perfect sense that he started doing movie scores (for Jane Schoenbrun movies too!! The crossover sent by god..) He has tried so many different styles from the Skin Cell's harsh, angry screeching to Beach Music's whimsical and often creepy lilting. He is the gift that keeps on giving with 100s of unreleased gems that you have to dig through all corners of the internet for. My favorite songs are Kara, Hit, Chinese Melodies, Written in Blood, Things to do, Witch, Mud, Kicker, and Brite Boy. I've seen him live exactly once and while it was great, I would kill someone to go back in time and hear him play in a library to 30 people.

Uncanny Valley

The reason I made a Neocities site. Another person who's creative progression over the years has paralleled mine and I'm ngl I wanted to be him so bad a few years ago. His art is insanely cool, he inspired my own style a lot and I started making dolls because of his too. Mine haven't exactly lived up to that standard yet though lol... Also his site is a masterpiece and I will definitely be playing any video games he works on in the future. (Also he's like the only person I know who also played Amanita games and Edna & Harvey as a kid.. they're so nostalgic)

Their art is shockingly beautiful and literally every part of their compositions are perfect. Their animation "A Collector of Big and Small Things" actually altered my brain chemistry and is one of the best pieces of art possibly ever created, with stunning animation where every shot is like something out of a dream. (am I glazing them too much? lmk) Anyway, after you watch that go watch Jacob Geller's video "How Can We Bear to Throw Anything Away?" (and then watch all his other videos too..)

Another guy who makes awesome trippy animations. I love their weird, geometric style that clearly takes a lot of inspiration from Mexican and southwestern art. Their videos also have a great sense of humor that captures annoying 20-something rich LA influencer culture. (At least I think it does as a girl who lives in a farming town in Washington with a population of 2000.) It's also interesting how they incorporate different forms of the apocalypse into a lot of their stories.

#3 in the "makes awesome silly animations that make you feel like you're having a spiritual experience" series. I love love love their cuter, more simplistic style and how freehanded and unpolished their animations seem while still undeniably being the product of intense attention to detail. They also write comics, I bought one at the shortbox comic fair and it was very funny and amazingly drawn. We both agree that Haifa Wehbe is a vampire.

Their style is both offputting and beautiful at the same time. Awesome character designs and I'm jealous of their trippy compositions. I'm extremely interested in their stories, and how they use the themes of alienation and family. I hope they write a comic someday. Also they know what Mook is???? I thought I was the only Mook fan left... guys can we bring back Danonation.. guys...

Honestly just weird and freaky art with questionable occultist undertones. I can't tell if they're putting on an ironic character or if they're actually just like that but either way I wish I was half as creative as them. Their drawings look like dreams I'd wake up from in a cold sweat as a kid. Not necessarily nightmares, just insanely unsettling, like they're poking at something that shouldn't be acknowledged.

Really beautifully detailed fantasy and sometimes horror art. I could stare at their paintings for hours, there's always more details to notice. I wish I knew how they give digital art such an organic texture.

Jiri Trnka

A puppeteer, filmmaker, and painter. Every scene in his movies are stunning and beautifully put together. I love anything related to stop motion or puppets and honestly I think it's a somewhat lost art form. I wish films today were more focused on the organic artistry they exemplify than pure spectacle. But that's pretty much every creative industry now.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Pavel Tatarnikov

Some of the most impressive art I've ever seen, I honestly don't know how he achieves this kind of detail with watercolor. His paintings are straight out of a storybook, they remind me of being a kid and thinking dragons were real and that any day now I was going to fall through a portal into a fantasy world. If you've ever seen Cartoon Saloon movies, they give me the same feeling. I wish he was a more appreciated artist.

Luvmamimi

Cutest girl ever who's single handedly bringing back old youtube. Watching her stuff makes me feel like I'm in 2010. I love her creativity and individuality. I hope I'm as cool as her when I grow up. Also I love listening to her voice.

Stargirl Lee

Another small youtuber who just makes cool and creative videos about art and whatever she's thinking about. Also a fellow old web crusader. BRING BACK THE 2000S!!! KILL SOCIAL MEDIA!!! (comment on my site if you think I should be euthanised thanks)

Poppy Z Brite ꩜ Billy Martin

My favorite author. He has a beautiful, layered, and atmospheric, yet not overly-verbose writing style. He captures the haunting beauty of the south and the creepiness inherent to it. Of course my favorite book by him, Lost Souls, is about pathetic goth sex-freak vampires riding around New Orleans. I'm predictable. But it's just so good. To be fair, he isn't exactly unproblematic. He has very questionable friends, A lot of his stories are pretty blatantly racist and he likes writing about incest a little too much for my taste. I know that's a staple of splatterpunk horror but I wish it wasn't.. Either way, I love his ideas and characters and the gross world they live in. I also find it funny how he kind of hates the gothic, melancholy style he got popular for and wishes fans understood he's a "beer drinking, sports loving guy" or something. He also used to be against fanfiction about his stories despite the fact that he literally wrote & published Mclennon fanfiction. DON'T READ his books if you don't want to hear about cannibalism, torture, sexual assault, bestiality, incest and a bunch of other horrifying stuff.

John Langan

Another great horror writer. His stories are less poetic and more brutal but they are beautiful in their own way. A lot of them are semi-ironic dissections of the tropes they use or the entirity of the horror genre (some are more pretentious and impenetrable than others.) The imagery they use always sticks with me after I'm done. His worldbuilding is insanely creative. I'd reccomend his collections "Children of the Fang" and "The Wide, Carnivorous Sky"

Ryan Ross <3

Oh boy.. what is there to say about this guy. If I could keep him in a jar on my shelf I would (and I would shake it around when I get mad). But seriously, AFYCSO and Pretty Odd are 2 of my favorite albums ever. Take a Vacation is great too. Every song on them is so good and his poetic, abstract lyrics make them all unique. His goofy elfish fashion taste, artistic makeup, and pretentious, reserved attitude have influenced multiple generations of weird, depressed teenagers who think they're way cooler than they are. I genuinely wish him the best and I hope he's happy out there after everything he's been through, despite the fact that he refuses to release his music (I know you have like 500 demos recorded that you're just holding onto.. you scoundrel...) The few snippets I've heard of his newer stuff, and his work as a producer, still impress me and I hope he keeps making music for a long time. Also I hope I can see him live at least once before I die but I think I would stop functioning if I was ever within 100 feet of him.
