The Heart Rate of a Mouse - Anna Green
Rating: 5/5
This is a fitting second review cuz i'm pretty sure keltie has actually read this in real life and even bought copies (???) somehow not surprising at all.
Anyway, yes, this is 500k words of panic at the disco fanfiction........... yes its kind of insane as a concept. But it's seriously a really good book.
First of all, the writing is genuinely impressive a lot of the time, and the characterization is surprisingly complex.
The relationship between the two main characters is unbelievably fucked up and in real life I would probably describe it as abusive, especially since throam ryan is a self admitted sex criminal (which i really could've done without honestly..) and really I shouldn't be rooting for them to end up together but by the end they're both equally fucked up so I guess that makes it less awful?
And personally I love awful self pitying male manipulator characters so this is like perfect for me. The more pathetic he got and the lower he stooped the more invested I was.
Also I just have an obsession with band/touring/groupie culture and how fame affects people, and especially in the 70s, and anything that feeds into that is great.
If you want to read about annoying morally grey rockstars in the 70s ruining eachothers lives then umm give it a chance? But definitely read the warnings first because it's really not family friendy AT ALL!!!
p.s. my ranking of the volumes is 2nd = best, 1st = worst, and 3rd = not my favorite but the ending makes it worth it.
